Brand Journey

After years of traveling, learning, and immersing herself in India’s rich textile traditions, Anju Modi established her eponymous brand in 1990. Her deep understanding of weaving, dyeing, and embroidery techniques set her apart, making her a pioneer in reviving and modernizing age-old crafts. From intricate handloom weaves to heritage embroidery styles, her designs carried a story of tradition, craftsmanship, and contemporary elegance. Over the years, her brand became synonymous with timeless artistry, bridging the gap between India's cultural heritage and modern fashion sensibilities.
Anju Modi’s expertise soon caught the attention of the film industry, particularly acclaimed
filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her meticulous research and commitment to authenticity led her to design costumes for cinematic masterpieces like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015). The grandeur and historical accuracy of her designs added to the visual splendor of these films, earning her widespread recognition. Her work in Bajirao Mastani was especially lauded, winning her the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design in 2016.

Expanding her footprint in costume design, she went on to work in the OTT series Taj: Divided by Blood, where she reimagined the opulence of Mughal-era attire. She also designed costumes for Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), dressing legendary actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Chiranjeevi in regal ensembles that reflected India's historical grandeur.

Over the last 35 years, Anju Modi has been honored with approximately 15–18 awards,  celebrating her contributions to fashion, cinema, and Indian craftsmanship. Her journey from living with artisans and experiencing their craft firsthand to creating a globally recognized brand—stands as a testament to her passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to preserving India's textile heritage.
